Dear Wildwater Racers and Friends:

The 2013 US Open Wildwater Race and East Coast Junior Team Trials took place this past weekend on the Nantahala River. Chris Hipgrave rolled with the punches to ensure that event happened. Congratulations to everyone that made it thru the weekend. Special thanks also go to Mary Garland and Ellen Osment for handing the timing. And a huge congratulations go to Selena Popp and Bryson Popp for earning a berth on the 2013 Junior Wildwater Team. They will be representing the USA in Europe this Summer.

The Western Junior Wildwater Team Trials, which are scheduled for April 20-21 on the Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon near Glenwood Springs, Colorado, will determine which athletes will earn the remaining berths on the 2013 Junior Wildwater Team. See the link below for some preliminary information about this event and stay tuned to USAWildwwater.com for more details.

The 2013 US Wildwater Championships will be held on September 5th and 6th on the Nantahala River. The races will be put on by the Nantahala Outdoor Center in conjunction with the 2013 Freestyle World Championships. More information will be posted on USAWildwwater.com as it becomes available.

Check out the links to the reports and results from the Glacier Breaker and Cedar River races that were earlier this year. Thanks to John Pinyerd and Chris Hipgrave for the information about the Glacier Breaker and Tom Wier for the information about the Cedar River Wildwater Races. See our calendar at www.usawildwater.com/races/2013_Calendar.pdf for the races are scheduled for the upcoming months - and make a commitment to participate in them.

The US Wildwater Committee (WWC) is wrestling with how, when and where to hold the junior and senior team trials for selecting the 2014 US Wildwater Team. During the March 11th meeting we approved splitting the senior team trials into Eastern and Western races (like we have been doing for the Juniors). We are still trying to schedule the team trials so the juniors and seniors are competing at the same event. More about this will be announced soon.

Last are links to preliminary information about the 2013 ACA Whitewater Open Canoe Downriver National Championships and the announcement from the ICF about the 2017 World Championships for Slalom and Downriver (Wildwater). This will be the first time in several years when both the slalom and downriver championships will be held at the same event.

Please let me know if I missed anything or you have and ideas that will make future e-Zines better.
